How to set up Android TV with the ResetVPN app

Installing ResetVPN on an Android TV set or box, signing in with a QR code or a code from your phone, and using it with the remote.

The ResetVPN app runs on TVs and boxes with Android TV, including Google TV (Android 7.0 and newer). It signs in with a code you approve on your phone or computer and takes one place in your device limit. Samsung and LG TVs (Tizen, webOS) can't run VPN apps — see Samsung, LG and Apple TV: how to connect.

How to install#

  1. Download the TV build from resetvpn.com/download/android-tv (opens in a new tab) — in the TV's browser or on your phone. Many budget boxes need "Android TV · 32-bit"; the processor type is in the TV's settings under "About".

  2. Copy the file to the TV if needed — for example, on a USB stick.

  3. Open the .apk on the TV. If the TV asks, allow installing from unknown sources.

How to sign in#

Open ResetVPN on the TV: it shows a QR code and an 8-character code. Approve the sign-in where you're already signed in:

"Subs" → "Android TV" on the subscription → "Scan the QR code" or "Enter the code manually" (the code, then "Continue") → "Link". A computer has no camera: enter the code straight away, then click "Continue" and "Link".

The code is valid for 10 minutes; if it expires, choose "Refresh code" on the TV. Any active VPN subscription works, including a trial; Premium and Router can't be sent to a TV. You can also use "Sign in with email".

Approve only your own TV. If someone sent you the code or link, don't approve it — that TV would get access to your account.

Using the remote#

  • "Connect" is on the left, "Locations" on the right. Pick a location with the arrows and press OK: a running VPN switches to it by itself.

  • On the first connect, approve the system VPN prompt with the remote.

  • Back minimizes the app; the VPN keeps running.

  • The account pill at the bottom left opens settings: "Auto-connect on launch", "Apps and VPN", "Language", "Sign out".

  • "Connected, but no internet" — choose "Reconnect" or another location.

To switch subscriptions, choose "Sign out" and link the TV again. You can't buy or renew on the TV — use your phone, computer, the website or the bot.

If something goes wrong#

The app won't install

Try the 32-bit build, or connect the TV through the Happ app — see How to connect a TV via Happ.

The TV says "No active subscription"

Get a VPN subscription or the trial, then sign out on the TV and link it again.
