How to update the ResetVPN app
Where the ResetVPN app tells you about a new version and how to update on Android, Windows, Linux and Android TV.
On this page
The ResetVPN app checks for a new version every time it starts. Your sign-in and settings are kept when you update.
Where you see a new version#
On the "Connection" tab — an "Update available" banner with an "Update" button. If it says "Update required", update as soon as you can.
"Settings" → "About & diagnostics": the "ResetVPN" row with the version number turns into "Update available". Tap the row to open "App update" with the installed and new versions and "What's new". If there's nothing new, it says "You're up to date" and offers "Check again".
On a TV — an "Update available" row under the connect button.
How to update#
On the update screen tap "Download & install", then confirm the install in the system dialog. The first time, Android asks you to allow ResetVPN to install apps: turn the permission on in the settings that open, come back and tap "Download & install" again.
Click "Download & install" — the app downloads and verifies the installer and opens it. Go through the installer: ResetVPN closes by itself once the installation starts. If you closed the installer window, click "Install again".
The app doesn't install packages itself: click "Open download page", download the new .deb or .rpm and install it with the same command as the first time — for example, sudo apt install ./resetvpn_amd64.deb.
Select the "Update available" row → "Download & install". If the TV asks for permission, turn ResetVPN on under "Unknown sources" ("Settings" → "Apps" → "Security & restrictions"; on some TVs it's under "Device Preferences") and press Back on the remote. In the system window choose "Install".
The VPN disconnects while the update installs. Afterwards, open ResetVPN and connect again — or turn on "Auto-connect on launch" beforehand ("Settings" → "Behavior"; on a TV, in its settings).
You can also install a new version by hand: download the file from resetvpn.com/download (opens in a new tab) and install it over the old one. On Android, take the same build you already have (the main one or one from "Other versions"; on a TV, the Android TV build with the same bitness): Android may refuse to install a different build over it.
If something goes wrong#
"Couldn't download the update: no connection to the server"
Check your internet and try again, or download the file from the download page.
"Not enough space to download the update"
Free up some space on the device and try again.
"The update file is corrupted — download it again."
Tap "Download & install" again.
No banner, although a new version is out
The check runs at launch: restart the app, or open the update screen and tap "Check again".
